The Iranian representative to the UN responded to the 'unfounded claims' made by foreign ministers of Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Canada at the 70th UN General Assembly in New York.
In response to Bahrain’s foreign minister who accused Iran of meddling into its internal affairs, Iran’s envoy stated that, “making these allegations by Baharaini authorities is an attempt to cover up the violation of fundamental rights of majority of people and as long as the ruling minority is abusing the rights of the majority, no effort will help to resolve the issue including charges like foreign interference.”
Reacting to remarks by Bahrain and UAE foreign ministers on Iranian official’s recent statements about the Mina tragedy, Iran’s representative added that, “Bahrain and UAE’s detestable comments on issues irrelevant to them will not help to resolve the issue."
Moreover, in response to these countries’ statements on the issue of the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunbs as well as the Persian Gulf naming dispute, Iran's representative asserted that, “the idea of changing geographical names with political motivations has been rejected in numerous UN conferences and it is a shame that despite some political motives behind distorting the name of the Persian Gulf, certain Arab countries continue their void effort to change the name of the sea.”
Stressing the full ownership and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, Iran’s envoy rejected any claim against these islands and deemed any effort to control them as 'interference into Iran’s internal affairs and as unacceptable.'
Accordingly, te representative added that, “Iran has always sought to promote friendly relations based on good neighborliness with its neighbors but the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the three islands is absolutely not negotiable.”
Responding to Canada’s deputy foreign minister’s remarks, Iran’s envoy noted that, “these statements are the result of their conservative government’s concerns about the loss of their power to distort the fact against Iran as well as the possible impact of the nuclear deal on their Iranophobia policies.”
