During the meeting, vice president, stressing the relations between Iran and Turkey in particular the MoU between the two countries in regard to women and family, underlined the development of the mutual cooperation in this regard.
Molavrdi further outlined cultural and religious commonalities between the two countries and reminded the role of cooperation between Iran and Turkey in reducing violence and extremism in the region, stressing the importance of such meetings due to Sahin’s experiences with women and family.
The vice president described peaceful means and dialogue as sustainable solution to the problem of violence and extremism, referring to the successful nuclear negotiations and the new chapter in Iran's relations with other countries.
Acknowledging the human and religious mission of the two countries, Fatma Sahin, for her part, referred to the presence of two million Syrian refugees in Turkey 400,000 of which reside in Gaziantep whereas the European Union hosts 150,000 Syrian refugees.
Mayor of Gaziantep, underlining the neighborhood and the proximity requirements, stressed the need for close cooperation between the two countries in resolving Syrian crisis and its roots and countering Islamophobia. She also expressed hope that the cooperation would serve as a model for all countries in the world.
At the end of the meeting the two sides agreed on establishing a joint working group using the potential of non-governmental organizations along with the private sector.
The mayor of Gaziantep, Fatma Sahin has traveled to Iran to participate in the Asian Mayors Forum in Tehran.
