On Friday, the constellation of world-renowned former soccer giants, including Vitor Baia, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Marcel Desailly, Pedro Miguel Carreiro Resendes, known as Pauleta, as well as Fabio Cannavaro, defeated the Iranian side 3-0 in an event staged at Azadi stadium in Tehran, the proceeds of which would go to the Iranian society that supports MS patients.
In the 24th minute of the match, Brazilian star Roberto Carlos won the first goal for the World Stars with a free-kick.
Luis Figo made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, chipping the ball over Iranian legendary goalkeeper Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh.
With one minute remaining to the halftime, Pauleta scored the third goal for World Stars.
World Stars captained by Michel Salgado included Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Fabio Cannavaro, Guti, Fernando Hierro, Fernando Couto, Vitor Baia, Fernando Morientes, Marcel Desailly, Gaizka Mendieta, Edgar Davids and Jari Litmanen.
Iranian soccer giants, who comprised the Iranian national team during 1998 and 2006 World Cups, included Ahmadreza Abedzadeh, Karim Bagheri, Ali Karimi, Alireza Mansourian, Farhad Majidi, Yahya Golmohammadi, Javad Zarincheh, Majid Namjoo Motlagh, Hamid Estili, Rasoul Khatibi and Khodadad Azizi as Iran’s All-Star team.
The World Stars team takes the field once a month in a world country to raise funds for people, who are suffering from a disease or disaster. Support for Ebola patients in Africa was one of the latest fundraisers of the squad.
