Iran condoles with Indonesia on deadly plane crash

TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Sunday condoled with the Indonesian government and nation over an air crash in which 54 people lost their lives.

Marzieh Afkham expressed regret over the tragic incident and sympathized with the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy.

An Indonesian aircraft with 54 people on board crashed in Indonesia's remote and mountainous region of Papua on Sunday, which is the latest in a string of aviation disasters in the Southeast Asian nation.

Rescue workers on Tuesday morning spotted the debris of the missing airplane and the bodies of all 54 people on board, including five children.

The plane was also carrying $470,000 of cash aid for poor families, the Indonesian government officials said.

Indonesia has a patchy aviation safety record and has seen two major plane crashes in the past year, including an AirAsia flight that went down in the Java Sea, killing all on board, Reuters reported.
