Junior Iranian wrestlers land 6th in Brazil

SALVADOR, Aug. 13(MNA) – Iran Junior Greco-Roman wrestling team won the sixth place in 2015 Junior Wrestling World Championships.

Iranian junior Greco-Roman wrestlers placed at the sixth in the 2015 Junior Freestyle, Greco-Roman World Championship held in Salvador de Bahia city of Brazil.

Iran’s Reza Khedri prevented the Georgian team from capturing a third gold medal with a hard-fought 2-1 decision victory over Nugzari Tsurtsumia and claimed Iran’s first gold medal on the opening night of the event.

Amir-Hossein Hosseini was the other Iranian grappler bringing a medal home with his silver at 96 kg category.

In 66Kg class of the Greco-Roman event, Ali Arsalan bagged a bronze medal for Iran and Iran got the sixth place of the competition with 31 points accomplished.

Georgia continued their dominance of the Junior World Wrestling Championships and Seized the Greco-Roman team title with 60 points.

The Georgians won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the fights on the Greco-Roman mats.

 The 2015 Junior World Championships got underway in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil from August 11 to 16.

The competitions featured the best 17-20 year old wrestlers in the world, and was a major stepping stone for athletes who go on to win World and Olympic medals at the senior level.
