Rumi band to release video album

TEHRAN, Jun. 30 (MNA) – Rumi music ensemble led by Pedram Derakhshani is currently working on a video album to be released in near future.

Rumi music band headed by Pedram Derakhshani is in its final steps of recording and preparing a new video album in which the band is showing a turning shift after ten years of performance.

The new work is instrumental music with no vocal part in which the Iranian Santour instrument is playing a central role.

"For this album I mainly focused on the Santour and orchestration variety," said the musician.

Like other works of the band, this album would again be in fusion genre but with an audience of specific tastes, Derakhshani added.

About the release time of the new video album, Derakhshani was quite unsure as he called the new work highly sensitive and time consuming.

Two years ago, Derakshani, a composer of fusion genre and a Santour player, was nominated for the best player of Persian music in the second edition of Iranian Music Festival of Ma where he had got the prize for his album Rumi III in the first edition of the festival.

An old Persian instrument, the santour is a hammered dulcimer of Babylonian origin. The term santour is of unclear etymology, though theories include the meaning "one hundred strings" in Persian, or derivation from the Greek term psalterion.
