Tehran, Moscow ink banking deals

TEHRAN, May. 04 (MNA) – Iran’s ambassador to Moscow has announced the signing of some important banking deals between Tehran and Moscow to step up the level of bilateral trade transactions.

In a Monday session of Iran-Russia joint chamber of commerce, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei said with the approval of the Central Bank, a number of Russian banks will open Rial bank accounts in Iran.

According to him, opening a joint barter account with Russia will be the second step in furthering banking relations between the two countries.

Noting that Russia has opened such an account only with China, Sanaei asserted the account would facilitate trade transactions between Tehran and Moscow.

This year’s customs figures show a 20 percent increase in the two countries’ trade ties, although the figures are far from reaching the full potential of Iran-Russia’s bilateral capacities.

According to Sanaei, Iran and Russia exchanged a total of 900 political, economic and cultural delegations last year.
