Iran slams Boko Haram’s bombings in Nigeria

TEHRAN, Mar. 08 (MNA) – Iran’s spokeswoman has strongly condemned the Saturday bombings in the Nigerian city of Maiduguri that claimed lives of at least 50 innocent people.

Marzieh Afkham pointed to the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Nigeria which have now been postponed by six weeks to 28 March to give troops time to push back the militants, adding “Nigeria now more than ever needs security, peace and unity.”

Earlier on Saturday, four bomb blasts killed at least 50 people in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri in the worst attacks there since Boko Haram militants tried to seize the town in two major assaults earlier this year.

Boko Haram whose name means “Western education is forbidden,” has recently pledged allegiance to ISIL Takfiri terrorist group. It controls parts of northeastern Nigeria and says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.
