South Pars launches sour gas extraction

BUSHEHR, Jan. 10 (MNA) – The offshore platform of South Pars (SP) Phase 15 in Bushehr Province has launched extraction of sour gas today, intended to be sent to refineries of phases 15 and 16.

With the launch of extraction, the sour gas from offshore platform of South Pars Phase 15 comprising of 11 wells, was directed to refineries of phases 15 and 16 through a 32-inch pipeline lying on the seabed.

According to the report, a young group of experts at Sepanir Oil and Gas Engineering Co. through an innovative approach were able to successfully direct the sour gas to the refineries by creating a balance between the pressures of sour gas sent from the offshore platform of South Pars Phase 15 and that of gas sent from the land.

In Dec. 2014, Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters successfully launched the extraction of sour gas from the offshore platform of South Pars Phase 16; the sour gas was then sweetened in refineries of phases 15 and 16 and injected into the national gas pipeline network.

South Pars Gas Field Development Project Phase 15 & 16 is aimed at producing 56.6 mcm of gas per day, 75 thousand barrels of gas condensate, 400 tons of sulfur as well as an annual production of 1.05 million tons of LPG and one million tons of ethane as feedstock for petrochemical units.
