Iran’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi in response to the recent IAEA report said that the report once again confirmed that Iran’s nuclear program including Natanz and Fordo enrichment activities as well as Arak’s heavy water research reactor is completely under the supervision of the IAEA and has had no divergence from its peaceful objectives.
“Although it is not necessary for the IAEA to include all the technical details in the report, the fact that the report is detailed to such an extent indicates the full transparency of Iran's nuclear program, and some Western countries’ pretentious concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities are completely groundless,” Najafi asserted.
“The fact that the IAEA cannot ensure about the absence of undeclared activities due to Iran’s not implementing the Additional Protocol is not only restricted to Iran and includes all members who do not implement the AP,” he said, “we implemented the AP for three years before the illegal imposition of sanctions against Iran. Should the sanctions be completely lifted and Iran’s issue be returned to the IAEA, we can resume implementing the AP.”
Najafi pointed to Iran and the IAEA cooperation and said, “out of the 18 agreed practical steps, 16 have been so far completed. The technical meetings between Iran and the IAEA will continue, however, to further discuss the two remaining steps.”
Najafi maintained that Iran is committed to continue the meetings with the IAEA to resolve the remaining issues within the framework of its own legal obligations.
Iran and the six states will meet in Vienna from November 18 to try to discuss a long-term agreement to end a dispute over Iran’s right to nuclear energy.
