Velayati said the negotiators have done their job “efficiently”, followed the “path set by the Supreme Leader”, taken steps in line with the “interests of the Islamic Republic”, and “we should wish success for them”.
“We are facing complicated and sensitive negotiations and it is necessary to support the negotiating team,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
In an interview with Al Arabiya on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said, “If Iran does not execute the commitments it made with Western powers, the military option of the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.”
Velayati said, “This is not the first time that U.S. officials make such slogans, and such remarks are nothing more than a bluff. And it is clear that the Americans do not have such capability otherwise they would not have pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan so weakly.”
Talking to reporters, he said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as the most powerful country in the region, definitely will not allow Americans” do such an adventurous move.
The veteran politician added, “Even Western thinkers do not believe in such hollow slogans (by U.S. officials).”
Reiterating Tehran’s position, Velayati said such threats will have no effect on Iran’s determination to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
