A number of the actors who appeared in his films as well as many art and cultural figures will attend the ceremony, during which Hatami’s “Haunted by Love” and “Mother” will be screened. Both films will also be shown at two Qazvin movie theaters on the same day.
The ceremony participants are also slated to visit various locations in the city where Hatami shot scenes of his films.
Hatami, 52, died of blood cancer on December 5, 1996. He began his professional career as a writer of short TV screenplays and as a playwright. His film career began with “Bald Hassan” in 1970, which scored a spectacular success at the box office.
In subsequent years, he developed a personal filmmaking style that was characterized by rhythmic dialogues and traditional Iranian ambiance.
He died before finishing his last film, “World Champion Takhti”, but Behruz Afkhami completed it.
His credits include “Toughi” (The Ring-Necked Dove), “The Suitor”, “Broken Hearts”, “Haji Washington”, “Kamalolmolk”, “Jafar Khan Returns from Europe”, and “Punishment Committee”.
He is well-known among the Iranian people for his TV series “Hezardastan”, which was made between 1979 and 1988.
His daughter Leila Hatami is one of the famous stars of the Iranian cinema.
