Iran, Oman Sign Agreements On Range Of Investments, Trade Issues

Navab told IRNA that the 20-member Iranian delegation explored areas for cooperation on various issues reviewing ways to promote investment and trade-related issues.

"Prevention of double taxation in finance and investment areas was among the key issues discussed at the commission session." Under this agreement, Iranian companies can avoid paying taxes or be eligible for exemptions in Iran if they already pay taxes in Oman.

Building air and sea transportation infrastructure Navab said will allow the shipment of Iranian-made goods directly to Oman.  He also noted the Omani Shiite population would like to visit the religious city of Mashhad, so this infrastructure will facilitate cultural-religious exchanges.

Other agreements signed ranged from diplomatic visas, to facilitating joint investment in the petrochemical sector, as well as the establishment of a joint business council to enhance trade activities in the near future.

Iranian Chamber of Commerce Deputy Chairman Ala Mir Mohammad Sadeqi said a joint business council between the two countries' would be ideal if the Omani side agreed, citing the formation of a joint shipping company, direct air links between Iran and Oman, facilitating one day visa requests for businessmen, and holding exhibitions and exchanges of delegations as among the objectives of this joint council.

The Oman Chamber of Commerce deputy chairman, pointing to the increasing volume of trade between Iran and Oman in recent years told a joint meeting of traders, chambers of commerce members, and industries and mines officials he was satisfied with the agreements.

Saying cooperation, the promotion of free trade, and the establishment of ties between his country and Iran was essential. As Oman’s second largest trading partner he called for greater efforts to stimulate the Iranian and Omani private and state sectors.

In another development, managing Director of Iran Fisheries Organizations said on Tuesday that Iranian and Omani officials have agreed on coordination of activities of Iran industrial ships at the

Omani ports.

Lotfollah Saeidi said that the agreement was reached at the Iran-Oman Joint Economic session underway in Muscat.

The agreement stipulates for the two states' private sectors, fisheries organization, shipping and ports authorities to strive to remove hurdles on the away of docking and other activities by Iranian ships at Omani ports said Saeidi who is also Deputy Agriculture Jihad Minister.

He said that an agreement has also been signed to convey Iran's experiences on Shrimp farming to Oman.

Iran and Oman also agreed Tuesday to establish a joint business council to enhance trade activities in the near future.

The Oman Chamber of Commerce deputy chairman, attending a joint meeting of the two countries' traders and members of their chambers of commerce and industries and mines, expressed satisfaction over the agreement.

Pointing to the increasing volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Oman in recent years, he said his country attaches special importance to cooperation with Iran to promote free trade and

establish ties with countries.

He said Iran is Oman's second biggest trading partner, and called for greater efforts to activate their private and state sectors.
