According to Mehr News Agency, Javad Oji talked about the latest developments of Iran’s natural gas export projects and said: “Iran has the largest natural gas reserves in the world holding over 34 trillion cubic meters of gas and can develop an export capacity of 200 million cubic meters within the next years.”
“Therefore as Iran has joint gas fields, strategic plans have been designated in order to supply gas to Europe.”
Managing director of the Iranian National Gas Company elaborated on the Iran-Iraq gas deal developments and announced that the contract has been measured since two years ago. “Right now Iran exports or swaps 30 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey, 1.5 to 2.5 million cubic meters to Armenia and Nakhichevan,” he said.
Iranian Deputy Minister of Petroleum noted that the objective of signing the gas contract with Iraq is to supply gas to 5 Iraqi energy plants which covers 30 per cent of the total fuel Baghdad needs and 25 million cubic meters of gas are exported to this neighboring country per day.
The member of the board of directors for the Iranian National Gas Company pointed out to Iran-Pakistan gas deal and added: “Iran-Pakistan gas deal includes 21.5 million cubic meters and is expected to grow to 30 million cubic meters. The establishment of the pipeline from Asaluyeh to Iranshahr, from Iranshahr to the Pakistani border has started.
On the latest developments of Iranian gas export to Turkey and other European countries, Iranian deputy Minister of Petroleum said: “Last year 8.5 billion cubic meters of gas was exported to Turkey of which $4 billion was earned.”
Oji stated that the gas transit via Turkey last year was done by a written agreement which allowed the annual transit of 30 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe through Turkish territory and noted: “Thus the 6th nationwide gas pipeline is stretched from Asaluyeh to west Lorestan and from there to Bazargan border and has a capacity of supplying 100 million cubic meters of gas Iranian provinces of Ilam, Kermanshah, Khoozestan and West Azarbaijan need.”
Iranian Deputy Minister of Petroleum emphasized that another contract signed with Iraq is aimed at exporting gas to Europe via Iraq and Syria. “One line passes through Turkish territory which transits to Europe 50 to 60 million cubic meters of gas from the nationwide pipeline and the second line is projected to pass through Iraqi and then Syrian territories and from there to Europe; the cost of the project has been estimated to reach $8 billion,” he said.
