According to a critic, most damaged houses had been built in loose soils. Saudi royal family have reportedly seized national lands and sold them to citizens. This critic attributed the destruction of houses to building them on wrong places.
He said that these lands have been sold by Saudi royal family to the public without any regulatory controls. Hamza al-Hassan pointed to floods in several parts of Saudi Arabia which took heavy tolls.
“Floods are common in all points of the globe, and not specific to Saudi Arabia, but Saudi Arabia is a desert country, where a single drop of rain water should be used with economy,” he added.
“But there is no dams built in the country; nor there is any well-built infrastructure to secure people’s lives,” asserted he, adding that “ with the current situation going on, disasters in Jeddah, Jizan, Najran, Tabuk, Riyadh and other regions.”
The analyst said that recent flood had killed 30 citizens. “Recent flood exposed the corruption in royal family of al-Saud, to which Saudi citizens are witness; floods in Jeddah blocked the streets, houses were destroyed,” added the critic.
He also believed that the officials responsible for the nonchalance were not questioned, “Since the corruption is rampant in all layers of power-holding families.”
Hassan said that “with a small event, the indications of corruption become evident.”
“Saudi regime claims that wasted oil incomes during decades have been spent in building infrastructure, but no sign of real construction is seen,” asserted Hassan, “ not only the floods reveal the contrary, but also streets, schools, hospitals and health centers are not in optimum conditions, and corruption is rife on Saudi Arabia.”
He believed that this had made the issue quite a political issue, and not works of fate. On the construction plans in Saudi Arabia, Hassan believed that there were many ill-planned projects where billions of Saudi Rials have been squandered and had been exchanged by a few.
“All this money gets ultimately to the royal family members pockets. And this is quite disturbing, since Saudi people living on oil-rich lands, are subject to disastrous death,” he said.
