Speaking to reporters, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said that the defense shield plan falls within the hegemonistic powers’ strategy to provide the Zionist regime with security.
Hajizadeh said it is a great shame that the cost of the plan is carried by “the Muslims of the region”.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hajizadeh said that the United States has long been seeking to launch a comprehensive missile shield plan to protect the Zionist regime.
He added that the proposed missile defense shield in the Persian Gulf is part of the comprehensive plan.
In a speech to a first multilateral Persian Gulf-U.S. security forum in Riyadh on March 31, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made some remarks about a plan for a missile shield in the Persian Gulf against Iran.
Madelyn Creedon, the assistant secretary of defense for global strategic affairs, also said on March 27 that the U.S. will work to promote "interoperability and information-sharing" among the members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman - as they acquire greater missile-defense capabilities.
Missile shield plan in Persian Gulf is a U.S.-Israeli plan
Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi also said on Monday that the plan for a missile shield in the Persian Gulf has been devised by the U.S. and the Zionist regime.
“We advise our friends not to engage in such plans,” he said, adding that the plans not only do not promote security in the region but rather jeopardize it.
