Esteghlal legend Nasser Hejazi praised

TEHRAN, Apr. 11 (MNA) -- Legendary Iranian goalkeeper Nasser Hejazi was praised by general managers of giant clubs Persepolis and Esteghlal in a ceremony held on Monday.

Hejazi played for Iran’s national team 62 times from 1968 to 1980. He received an offer from Manchester United after the 1978 FIFA World Cup, and trained with them for a month, appearing in a reserve match against Stoke City.

“We have so many good memories from the time Mr. Hejazi played for Iran. He is an honest man and we will have to pay tribute to such sports personalities,” Persepolis GM Habib Kashani said.

The 62-year former Iranian player, who is currently working with his former club, Esteghlal, as a board member, is battling lung cancer.
