“Lost and Found” tops at Tehran animation festival

TEHRAN, March 11 (MNA) -- The British animation “Lost and Found” directed by Philip Hunt won the Best Animation Award in the International Section of the 7th Tehran International Animation Festival.

The 25-minute animation is an adaptation of Oliver Jeffer’s award winning children’s book. It is a magical tale of friendship and loneliness, which tells the story of a little boy who one day finds a penguin on his doorstep. Although at first he is unsure what to do, the boy becomes determined to help the penguin find his way back home.

The winners of the festival were announced during the closing ceremony which was held on Friday at the Hejab Hall of the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA).

IIDCYA Managing Director Seyyed Sadeq Rezaii, the secretary of the festival Mohammadreza Karimi-Saremi, CIFEJ General Secretary in Iran Mohsen Chiniforushan and several other officials attended the ceremony.

Following is the list of the winners of the International Section:

First Animation Golden Award: “Angry Man” by Anita Killi (Norway)

Second Animation Silver Award: “Childhood Mystery Tree” by Natalia Mirzoyan (Russia)

Third Animation Bronze Award: “Madagascar, Carnet de Voyage” by Bastien Dubois (France)

International Jury Award: “I was two” by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi (Iran)

Best Feature Animation Award: “In the Attic: Who Has a Birthday Today?” by Jiri Barta (Czech)

Best Student Animation Award: “Viliam” by Veronika Obertova (Slovakia)

Best TV Animation Award: “Chameleon, Red Tongue and Colored Head” by Ali Derakhshi (Iran)

Best Advertisement Animation Award: “Animal Instinct” (FIFA World Cup 2010) by Christopher Guinness (Trinidad and Tobago)

The CIFEJ Award of the festival went to “Copernicus’ Star” directed by Zdzislaw Kudla and Andrezej Orzechowski (Poland). The award was presented by Chiniforushan and the President of CIFEJ Firdoze Bulbulia.

At the Iran Competition Section, the Best Animation Award went to “See-Saw” by Hadi Tabasi and Mahmud Mokhtari. The following is the list of other winners in this section:

First Animation Golden Award: “Virtuoso” by Kianush Abedi

Second Animation Silver Award: “Alchemist” by Mehdi Khorramian

Third Animation Bronze Award: “Imprisoned in Time” by Naghmeh Farzaneh

Special Jury Award: “The Farmer and the Robot” by Abdollah Alimorad

Best Advertisement Animation Award: “Nissan Qashqai” by Amir-Mohammad Dehestani

Best TV Animation Award: the collection of works by Ali Derakhshi

A selection of 135 international productions coming from 66 countries along with 75 Iranian animations competed in this year’s festival which was held from March 6 to 10.
