Iran, Syria call for unity among Palestinian resistance groups

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA) – Unity of the Palestinian resistance groups is a determining factor in the campaign against the Zionist regime’s actions and policies, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a meeting with an Iranian security official in Damascus on Monday.

The Syrian president also expressed optimism about the positive trend of developments in Palestine and Lebanon.

Ali Baqeri, the deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also said reinforcing solidarity among the resistance groups is a priority of the Islamic Republic.

“Promotion of solidarity among resistance groups against the aggressive actions and policies of the Zionist regime through mobilizing the regional governments’ political capacities is the Islamic Republic’s most important priority in its interactions with the regional countries,” Baqeri stated.

The Iranian official again emphasized that plans aimed at brokering a compromise between Palestinians and the Zionist regime are doomed to failure.

He went on to say that the “popularity of the discourse of resistance among the regional governments is growing, and resistance has become a dominant political approach in the region.”

The security official added Iran and Syria are “strong pillars” of resistance in the region.

Commenting on the recent talks between Iran and the 5+1 group in early December in Geneva, Baqeri said that Iran’s “approach of smart resistance” proved effective during the talks.
