The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the conference on Islamic Philosophy and Challenges of the Present-Day World held here on Tuesday.
Director of the Institute of Wisdom and Philosophy of Iran Gholamreza Avani, and head of Iran’s Academy of Science Reza Davari Ardakani were present at the ceremony.
Avani gave a short address, stating that he regarded Ayatollah Amoli as a philosopher who has spent 40 years teaching the subject. “This great master has trained many students in the field of Islamic philosophy and has also compiled numerous books on this topic.
“On one hand, he collected wisdom and mysticism together and on the other, he helped promote philosophy as a new science in the seminaries,” he remarked.
Afterwards, the award was handed over to Hojjatoleslam Elmi, representative of Ayatollah Amoli, who then read the Ayatollah’s message on wisdom and philosophy for the participants.
This was part of the festival named Avicenna Wisdom, organized by Hamedan’s Avicenna Foundation, in which five international awards will be handed to winners during a ceremony in Hamedan on November 13.
Abu Ali Sina (c. 980 - 1037), commonly known in English by his Latinized name Avicenna, was a Persian polymath and the foremost physician and philosopher of his time.
He was also an astronomer, chemist, geologist, logician, paleontologist, mathematician, physicist, poet, psychologist, scientist and teacher.
