Slovakia hands copies of Persian manuscripts to Iran

The director of the University Library in Bratislava Tibor Trgina, as well as Slovakia’s new ambassador to Tehran, Anton Haiduk handed the CD containing the copies to INLA director Ali-Akbar Ash’ari here on Sunday.

Ash’ari noted that most Iranian cultural figures are familiar with Slovakian culture by way of the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB), adding that bilateral cooperation will help enhance this mutual understanding.

Ash’ari underlined that INLA is working on several projects including digitizing the sources and holding several educational courses, adding, “We are ready to transfer our experience to the libraries of Slovakia.”

Tibor Trgina also asked for greater cooperation with Iran in collecting and digitizing the sources.

In addition, Tibor Trgina and Ash’ari will sign an agreement to boost bilateral ties on Monday at the venue of INLA.

Also, an exhibition of Old Persian and Islamic manuscripts from the collection of Safvet Beg Basagic will open at the INLA conference hall on the same day.

Basagic’s collection contains unique manuscripts and essential works of medieval Islamic literature spanning the period from the 12th to the 19th century.

The 284 manuscripts and 365 printed copies portray the more than a thousand-year development of Islamic civilization from its beginning to the beginning of the 20th century.
