Long closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque ‘not a routine development’

TEHRAN, Apr. 03 (MNA) – A former media official at Al-Aqsa Mosque warned that its prolonged closure should not be viewed as a routine development.

Abdullah Maarouf warned against treating the prolonged closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque as a normal development, saying the move carries specific objectives and should not be underestimated.

Referring to reports that the closure could be extended until April 15, he said the measure had been planned in advance and was intended to test operational arrangements by Israeli police during the middle of Ramadan, ahead of broader changes in the mosque’s management after reopening.

He said the closure was unrelated to ongoing wars and was instead aimed at implementing structural changes in the administration of the mosque.

According to him, key adjustments in management and control procedures have been underway during the more than one-month closure period.
