French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Saturday night.
During the call, Araghchi said the United States and Israel are the main causes of insecurity in the region and the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed the need for all countries to adopt a responsible approach, strongly condemn the aggressors’ criminal attack on Iran, and refrain from actions that could escalate or expand the conflict.
The Iranian foreign minister reaffirmed Iran’s firm determination to defend its sovereignty, dignity, territorial integrity, and national security, adding that Iran’s defensive actions are directed exclusively at the military bases and facilities of the aggressors in the region and should not be interpreted as attacks on regional countries.
Araghchi also stated that the root cause of insecurity across the region, including Lebanon, is the expansionism and aggression of Israel, adding that stability in Lebanon depends on ending the occupation and halting Israeli attacks.
The two foreign ministers also discussed several consular issues during their conversation.
