Iran's new ambassador to Lebanon to be dispatched soon

TEHRAN, Dec. 31 (MNA) – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman has told Mehr that "The routine administrative procedure for accepting the new Iranian ambassador to Lebanon has been finalized, and the new ambassador will soon be sent to his mission."

Visiting Mehr headquarters on Wednesday, Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sat down for an interview during which he shed light on some issues in the Iranian foreign policy.

In response to a question about the reason for condemning the Zionist regime's action in recognizing Somaliland despite the severance of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Mogadishu and Somalia's inappropriate votes in international bodies in cases related to Iran, Baghaei clarified that Iran's position in condemning the Zionist regime's action in recognizing Somaliland - which is in line with the position of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union - is a principled and responsible stance.

He described the Israeli actions in recognizing Somaliland as being aimed at systematically weakening and disintegrating Islamic countries, especially in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden regions, and has no other goal than to destabilize the region and sow division among the countries of the region.

In response to a question about the publication by CNN of a series of statements by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu about the risk of Iran producing a nuclear bomb, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, "This issue per se is a sign of the Zionist regime's addiction to lying. As CNN has rightly emphasized, for three decades now, the Zionist regime's officials have been repeating the big lie of 'weaponization of Iran's nuclear program, and their affiliated media outlets have also injected this lie into Western public opinion."

In response to another question about Iran-Lebanese relations and the claim that the process of accepting the Iranian ambassador to Beirut has been stopped, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, "As has been stated before, this is not true. Normal diplomatic relations between Iran and Lebanon are going on as in the past; the usual administrative procedure of accepting the new Iranian ambassador to Lebanon has been finalized and the new ambassador will soon depart for his mission. The new Lebanese ambassador to Iran will also present his credentials to the Foreign Minister today."

In response to a question about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' economic diplomacy, Baghaei referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' various programs in that regard, emphasizing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by utilizing the capacity of commercial attaché and economic experts in Iranian diplomatic and consular missions abroad, as well as by identifying the potentials and challenges existing in the field of foreign trade, is making relentless efforts to help smooth and facilitate the country's economic and trade.
