The combined maritime search and rescue exercise 2025 (AZIREX-2025) was held for four days on Boyuk Zira Island, off the coast of Baku, with the participation of a fleet from the Army and IRGC navies, consisting of the missile-launcher vessels named "Paykan (Arrow)" and "Separ (Shield)", IRGC’s “Shahid Basir” destroyer, and vessel units of the Republic of Azerbaijan Navy.
The military exercise was held to enhance security and sustainable maritime interactions in the Caspian Sea and relations between Iran’s Navy and the naval forces of the Caspian Sea littoral states, especially Republic of Azerbaijan, in designing and implementing combined maritime rescue and relief operations and creating convergence and coordination in joint actions between the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan.
