Iran’s FM hold talks with foreign counterparts in Uganda

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is in Kampala, Uganda, held talks with his counterparts from several countries on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.

During Araghchi’s talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Tan Seow, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and international developments.

They emphasized the importance of identifying the potential for cooperation between the two countries in various economic and trade fields, and to this end, an agreement was reached on the exchange of diplomatic and economic delegations between the two countries.

Araghchi also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Al-Nafti.

In this meeting, the parties reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations, including the preparations made for holding the Joint Economic Commission meeting, and emphasized the common will of the two countries to strengthen relations and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

They also exchanged views on developments in the West Asia region and occupied Palestine in light of the agreement reached in Egypt to stop the Israeli genocide, emphasizing the responsibility of the guarantors to prevent the Zionist regime from violating its undertakings.

It was also emphasized that resolving the Palestinian issue requires an end to the occupation and the realization of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, and that countries are morally and legally obligated to support the Palestinian people in realizing this fundamental right and liberating them from the domination of occupation, apartheid, and colonial rule.

In another meeting in Kampala with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on ways to expand cooperation in various bilateral fields, as well as strengthen coordination at the level of international organizations.

Araghchi and Rodriguez also discussed international developments, especially from the perspective of the weakening of the principles and rules of the United Nations Charter and international law due to the aggressive unilateralism of the United States and its unilateral economic coercive measures against the developing world.

Araghchi explained Iran’s positions regarding the exploitation of the so-called snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal by three European countries to reinstate the UN Security Council resolutions against Iran, stating that Security Council Resolution 2231 should be considered terminated on the due date, October 18, 2025, and the restrictions contained therein regarding Iran’s nuclear program should end.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Cuba further expressed solidarity with the government and people of Venezuela against the US’s illegal bullying and pressure, warned of the dangerous consequences of the US’s illegal actions in the Caribbean region on regional and international peace and security, and called for the United Nations Security Council to take responsibility to prevent any violation of peace by the US.

On Wednesday, Araghchi and Foreign Minister of Venezuela Ivan Eduardo Gil Pinto also met in Uganda’s capital to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in various economic, trade, scientific-educational, and cultural fields.

The two ministers, reviewing regional and international developments, especially in the two regions of West Asia and the Caribbean, emphasized the importance of strengthening solidarity and cooperation between developing countries and members of the Non-Aligned Movement to effectively confront the challenges arising from unilateralism and lawlessness at the international level.

The parties also condemned the illegal actions of the United States, especially the June 2025 military aggression against Iran and the repeated threats and attacks against Venezuelan interests, warning of the dangerous consequences of these violations of law for global peace and security, and emphasizing the right of nations to defend themselves against bullying and illegal pressures.
