Iran’s Proposal for OPEC Chairmanship Best: Zanganeh

TEHRAN Oct. 18 (Mehr News Agency) – The Alphabetic Rotary Method for the selection of OPEC’s general secretary proposed by Iran was the most appropriate proposal of all, the Iranian Oil Minister said here Saturday.

Despite Venezuela’s refusal of the proposal, the majority vote of the organization will make it effective, Zanganeh stated.

Asked about the Russian reaction towards the recent changes discussed in OPEC, he said Russia, which already expressed tendency for oil price reduction, has been fully in favor of related debates.

Meanwhile, when asked about Arash oilfield, Zanganeh said Kuwait has not yet started operating the field.

“Although this is a joint oilfield, the operation would not be shared,” he added stressing that Iran’s Foreign Ministry is now negotiating the case with Kuwaiti officials.

OPEC has not yet officially received Venezuela’s suggestion to increase the oil price up to 32 dollars.
