Biden administration presses UK, France not to confront Iran

TEHRAN, May 27 (MNA) – Some western media sources reported that the US is arguing against an effort by Britain and France to censure Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s member state board in early June,

“The Biden administration is pressing European allies to back off plans to rebuke Iran for advances in its nuclear program as it seeks to keep tensions with Tehran from escalating before the autumn’s US presidential election,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The US is arguing against an effort by Britain and France to censure Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s member state board in early June, the diplomats said, according to the source.

The US has pressed a number of other countries to abstain in a censure vote, saying that is what Washington will do.”

According to informed sources, the US is not looking for another resolution against Iran. Some attribute this to the upcoming US presidential elections.

The next meeting of the Agency's Board of Governors is scheduled to be held on June 3-7.
