Iran to produce 20 more satellites next year

TEHRAN, Mar. 17 (MNA) – Iran's Minister of Information and Communications Technology said that the year 1402 was the most brilliant year in the country's space program, adding that producing 20 more satellites is on the agenda.

Issa Zarepour said about the development of the 5th generation mobile network in the country that 5G development is on Iran's agenda to reach at least 10 percent by the end of next year. He added that one of the conditions set for the operators was that they should be able to reach at least 10% coverage of the fifth generation by next year (starting from March 21, 2024).

Regarding the space developments in the past year, Zarepour stated that 1402(March 21, 2023-2024) was the most brilliant year in the country's space development, noting that 6 satellites were launched and numerous satellites were put into orbit.

He said that Iran managed to resume its life in the space program after 10 years of closure, pointing out that the construction of the country's largest space base began and its first phase will be implemented next year.

He added that a contract with the private sector has also been concluded to construct a space system, hoping that Iran will advance the space industry next year in the same way.

Several launches and various space events are planned for next year, he said, adding that the opening of the first phase of a space base will allow Iranian space experts to launch satellites into different orbits because launching satellites into the Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) is not possible yet, something that will be possible from the base.

Regarding the number of satellites under construction, the ICT minister noted that more than 20 satellites are under construction for next year, including the Martyr Soleimani satellite constellation.
