Salajegheh announced on Tuesday that water right of Lake Urmia was supplied for the first time in recent years, adding that the volume of water in the lake has reached 1.5 billion cubic meters due to the release of water from two dams in the area.
He expressed hope that the remaining dams would also release their water to the lake by the end of the year.
Iran has spent heavily on infrastructure projects in recent years to prevent Lake Urmia, Iran’s largest salt lake, from drying up.
Lake Urmia, located in the northwest of Iran, was once the most extensive permanent hypersaline lake in the world.
