Abedini is granted the €100,000 award in recognition of his personal creativity in producing superb graphic design and his individual skill in adapting the knowledge and achievements of Iran’s artistic heritage, making it new and compelling these days.
The Prince Claus Fund has presented the award annually since 1997 to honor individuals and organizations reflecting a contemporary approach to the themes of culture and development.
In addition, the Platform 21 Gallery and the fund jointly present an exhibition devoted to Abedini from Dec. 11 to Jan. 21, 2007.

He emphasizes the relationship between visual tradition and modern form, encourages research in the long and rich history of Persian art and calligraphy, and nurtures talent in the younger generations.
Abedini has won scores of awards, including the Crystal Simorgh for the best film poster at the Fajr International Film Festival, the Film Critics Special Award for the best film poster, third prize in the poster category of the 6th Biennial of Iranian Graphic Designers, and the Special Award for Creativity from the Iranian Graphic Designers Society.
The Principal Prince Claus Award values and draws attention to the diversity of Iranian culture – both historic and contemporary.
It recognizes the impact of graphic design as a powerful global medium of communication and highlights the tradition and role of graphic design both in the laureate’s own country and across the world.
