Second track of Qazvin-Zanjan railway to be operational

TEHRAN, Jan. 07 (MNA) – As part of the East-West transport corridor in Iran, the second track of the Qazvin-Zanjan Railway will be completed in 2024, after eight years since the project was started.

Iran Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, during a visit to Zanjan Province, announced that following the allocation of resources, the second track of the Qazvin-Zanjan Railway will be operational within a year.

As part of the East-West transport corridor in Iran, the construction of the second track of the Qazvin-Zanjan Railway project with the aim of doubling the freight and passenger capacity has had 86 percent physical development.

The 181-km route will be finalized with 13,500 billion IRR, reducing Tehran to Zanjan route by an hour at 200 km/h, according to Bazrpash.

The project has 11 stations and will increase rail freight transport capacity to 10 million tons.

The Qazvin-Zanjan Railway serving as a vital transport link connecting the cities of Qazvin and Zanjan, is located in the northwest of Iran.

Once the second track becomes operational, the Qazvin-Zanjan railway is expected to bring numerous benefits to the region. It will provide a faster and more efficient means of transport, reducing travel time and facilitating the movement of freight and passengers.

Furthermore, the railway project will have positive environmental implications. By providing an alternative to road transport, it has the potential to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and alleviate strain on existing road infrastructure. This shift towards rail transport aligns with sustainable development goals and promotes a more environmentally friendly mode of travel.
