Russia's Shoigu arrives in Tehran to meet Iranian official

Heading a high-ranking military delegation, Shoigu is scheduled to meet top Iranian officials.

Shoigu was officially welcomed by Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran's Armed Forces.

Last month, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Iran and Russia are independent countries whose military cooperation is not subject to the dictates of the United States and its allies.

Russia's military cooperation with Iran will not succumb to geopolitical pressure, he added.
