Iran’s woman author nominated for IBBY president

TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) -- The executive committee of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), at its recent meeting in Bologna, has nominated Zohreh Qaiini from Iran for the Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury president from 2006-2008 in the forthcoming elections in Beijing.

The IBBY General Assembly is expected to announce the final results of the election during a session in Macao, China, on September 23.

It is the first time that a candidate from the eastern part of the world has been nominated for the post. The previous president was U.S. scholar Jeffrey Garrett.

Iranian children’s book author Qaiini was a member of the Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury in 2002 and 2004.

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are presented every even numbered year in March to an author and an illustrator, whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature.

The awards are the highest international recognition given to authors and illustrators of children's books.
