Iran, Sri Lank determined to boost ties

TEHRAN, Jul. 31 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on Tue. in Colombo where both sides vowed for expansion of bilateral ties.

Continuing his meetings with senior Sri Lankan officials in Colombo, visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament Karu Jayasuriya.

The Iranian diplomatic chief who arrived in Sri Lanka on an official visit on Tuesday evening, first met with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena after arriving in capital Colombo.

During the meeting, the two sides underlined the continuation and expansion of good ties between the two countries in all areas including parliamentary relations.

The Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation then attended the formal banquet thrown by the Sri Lankan top MP.

Iran and Sri Lanka have enjoyed growing relations in recent years as Sri Lankan president visited Tehran in May.

Maithripala Sirisena visited Iran on May 13, 2018 where he signed a host of MoUs and agreements on economic and cultural cooperation with Iran. Also at a joint presser on the same day, the two presidents called for the establishment of a direct flight between Tehran and Colombo to boost tourism.

President Maithripala Sirisena and President Rouhani had already met on the sidelines of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit in Bangkok in October 2016.
