2018 Melbourne filmfest. to showcase 6 Iranian titles

TEHRAN, Jul. 31 (MNA) – Six Iranian films including ‘Dressage’ by Pouya Badkoubeh and ‘Pig’ by Mani Haghighi will take part in the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in Australia.

The six Iranian titles to vie at the 66th MIFF include features ‘Dressage’ by Pouya Badkoubeh, ‘Pig’ by Mani Haghighi, ‘Ava’ an Iran, Qatar, Canada coproduction directed by Sadaf Foroughi, short films 'Ascribed Achievements' by Samaneh Shojaei and 'AniMal' by Bahman and Bahram Ark, as well as short animated piece ‘Mr. Deer’ by Mojtaba Mousavi.

‘Pig’ is a riotous Iranian film industry satire about a serial killer beheading famous filmmakers and a director who’s outraged he hasn’t been targeted.

‘Dressage’ narrates the story of Golsa and her friends who decide to rob a corner shop out of boredom. But while evaluating the robbery, they are dismayed to realize that they forgot to take the security camera footage; so one of them must return to the crime scene and retrieve it; a task that falls on Golsa.

‘Mr Deer’, which has recently won the Special Animation award at the 28th Animafest Zagreb in Croatia, is a 20-minute stop motion animation which utilizes the puppet technique to narrate a story set in an unknown time, in a ruined subway station which is similar to those in modern European societies. People in this society have animal faces and have forgotten humanity.

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is an annual film festival held in Melbourne, Australia. Running since 1952, MIFF is the leading film festival in Australia and one of the world’s oldest film festivals, alongside Cannes and Berlin.

The 66th edition of the event will be held on 2-19 August 2018.
