Iran envoy discusses Syrian issue with UN, Turkish and Russian sides

TEHRAN, Jul. 31 (MNA) – Senior Assistant of Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Sedat Önal, Russian President's Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura late on Monday.

Jaberi Ansari and Önal discussed the latest developments in Syria, the constitutional committee, return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, prisoners swap, and the final draft statement of 10th International Conference on Syrian Peace underway in Sochi.  

Jaberi Ansari also met with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and discussed the latest developments in Damascus.

Iran’s senior official also sat down for talks with Russian President's Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, as well as Syrian envoy to UN Bashar al-Jaafari.

Sponsors of Syria talks agreed to hold an advisory meetings with United Nations' representatives and the Syrian opposition on the opening of the constitutional committee.

Sochi meeting was held on Monday, attended by Senior Assistant of Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Sedat Önal and Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.

The meeting counts as a preliminary session for a next version of the Astana talks, whose first round took place in Sochi in January 2017.
