In a press release on Tuesday, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said he was “horrified” by the attempted missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh.
“The United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Saudi Arabia as it faces regional crises and security threats,” he stressed.
His comments came after the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said it intercepted a missile fired over the city by Houthis.
“I call upon all countries in the region to do what they can to implement UN Security Council resolutions and prevent such attacks which are increasing regional tensions,” he added.
Johnson’s concerns for civilian casualty in Saudi Arabia comes as UK is guilty of selling record quantities of arms to countries with poor human rights records, including but not limited to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Burundi and the Maldives, according to a report published by The Guardian in May.
