Iran, Turkey, Russia to expand energy, financial coop.

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Fri. that Iran, Turkey and Russia will expand their cooperation in the field of energy and the fight against terrorism in Syria.

Sergey Lavrov made the remarks at a session of the Russian Federation Council on Friday, Dec. 15, saying that the three countries will expand their energy ties regardless of the US greedy policies and that they have also agreed on a way to fight terrorism in Syria.

"In our financial transactions with Iran and Turkey, we are trying to use our own monetary units, " Lavrov said.

The three countries’ energy cooperation will expand independently from the United States, the Itar-Tass news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Minister as saying.

“Iran, Russia and Turkey do not want to be dependent on a global financial structure controlled by the United States,” he noted, adding that “the United States is pressuring other countries using its own superior position in the current financial structure.”

With regard to the situation in Syria, Russia's foreign minister said Iran, Russia and Turkey have a lot in common in the fight against terrorism in the war-torn country.

He said that the three countries understand the need for victory over terrorism while preserving the territorial integrity of Syria and supporting the peaceful coexistence of all ethnic and religious groups in the country.

Lavrov further explained, "as President Vladimir Putin has said, there are differences between Moscow, Tehran and Ankara, but the three countries have similar stance on the fight against terrorism in the country."

Hassan Rouhani, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey, as the three countries supporting the peace process in Syria, met in Sochi, Russia, on the 22nd of November and underlined an appropriate solution to solve Syrian crisis without any foreign intervention in the internal affairs of the country while supporting the sovereignty and independence and territorial integrity of Syria.
