“The outstanding performance of Sohrab Moradi which led to his winning of three gold medals and setting two new world records, together with the success of other Iranian weightlifters at 2017 Weightlifting World Championships, has been a great source of happiness to the Iranian nation. I hope that the triumph of our courageous athletes will continue in the course of the championships,” said President Rouhani in a tweet on Monday.
Iranian 2016 Olympic champion, Sohrab Moradi, set two new world records in Men’s 94kg division of 2017 Weightlifting World Championships with a total of 417kg. Farkhodbek Sobirov of Uzbekistan finished in second, and Aurimas Didzbalis of Lithuania finished in third overall in the same weight group.
The 2017 World Weightlifting Championships are being held in Anaheim, United States, from 28 November to 5 December 2017.
