No obstacle barring growth in Iran-Armenia ties

YEREVAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan told Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif that Armenia is eager to expand ties with Iran.

"We see no hurdle obstructing the expansion of ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and we attach great importance to the might of the Islamic Republic of Iran," said Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan during his Tuesday meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif in Yerevan.

This was the last meeting of Foreign Minister Zarif in Yerevan where he met with his Armenian counterpart and Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan before the meeting with President Sargsyan.

"It is necessary to bear in mind the old background of ties between the two countries to be able to shape the future ties," said the Armenian head of state.

"I think it is necessary to continuously develop the relations between the two countries," added the Armenian president.

Besides exchanging views on regional issues, also the two sides discussed the pollution of the Aras River which marks the borderline between the two countries. "The river is also of prime importance for us and we would do our best to solve the issue of contamination," reassured Mr. Sargsyan.
