Iran reacts to new Chinese banks restrictions

TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – In a statement issued Saturday, Iran’s embassy in china has addressed the intensification of banking obstacles for Iranian’s living in China.

The Iranian embassy has stated that solving the banking problems of Iranians has been a priority for Iran’s embassy in Beijing, stressing that the issue has always been raised in negotiations with the relevant Chinese officials.

The statement has been issued, following the decision of some major Chinese banks, including Agriculture Bank of China and ICBC to close the bank accounts of Iranians in China. In addition to the embassy’s efforts to follow up on the problem, the topic has been raised in meetings between high-ranking officials of Iran and China.

The Chinese officials have explained that the problem is not limited to Iranians, rather it is caused by enforcing stricter regulations on Chinese banks as part of Financial Action Task Force on money laundering and transparency in banking documents.

The Chinese officials have announced their awareness of the aforementioned problems, saying that they will try to remove the obstacles through a scheduled process and by making arrangements with bank supervisor officials.
