Iran crushes US at FIVB World Grand Champions Cup

TEHRAN, Sep. 13 (MNA) – The Iran men's national volleyball team scored its second win at FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup on Wed. by trouncing US with a 3-2 win.

On Wednesday, Iranian volleyball players faced the US powerhouse at Nippon Gaishi Hall in the Japanese city of Nagoya, and managed to defeat the American team with a 3-2 win (20-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-21 and 15-12), while having conceded the first two sets.

The Iranian outfit was already in high spirits after their tie-break win over the Italian team on Tuesday, in which they defeated their European rivals 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 28-26, 29-31 and 15-11).

During the Wednesday breathtaking match, while the Americans had the upper hand in the first two sets, Igor Kolakovic’s boys changed the momentum of the plays by leading the last three sets with at least two points.

The US outfit displayed a better performance than the Italian volleyball players and executed some powerful and quick serves and spikes, but Iranians returned to the third set with higher spirits and edged past the American rivals with mounting some good attacks and ultimately winning the first two matches of a global major competition for the first time since the 2014 World Championship.

Iran last beat USA in a competitive match in 2015, when they won 3-0 in the 2015 World League.

Iran will next take on Brazil on September 15.

Great job by Iranian team. I just wish they would trim their breads and not kissing each other when they play outside the country. :-)
