Speakers of members of parliaments from about 50 world countries as well as several international organizations have gathered in Bali of Indonesia in order to discuss the issue to achieving the 2030 Agenda through Inclusive Development.
A delegation of the Iranian Parliament, headed by MP Jamali Nobandegani, is taking part at the forum. Nobandegani is a member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
Also, Jalal Mahmoudzadeh, member of Iranian Parliament Committee on Agriculture, as well as Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia are present at the event.
Speaker of House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Setya Novant, addressed the opening ceremony of the World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development and, while pointing to the challenges and difficulties faced by Rohingyan Muslims in Myanmar, urged the government of the Southeast Asian nation to pay further attention to the issue in order to prevent violence against defenseless Muslims.
He also emphasized the role played by national parliaments of countries in approving policy laws and allocating adequate financial resources needed to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Novant called on parliaments of various countries to form special working groups in line with realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Underlining the role of parliamentary planning in success of the 2030 Agenda through Inclusive Development, the official added “the program basically aims to put an end to poverty, fight against injustice and discrimination as well as preventing climate change.
He deemed war, violence and terrorism as yet other major threats which can restrain nations from development.
The international event is attended by MPs from several countries including the Islamic Republic of Iran, Indonesia, Bhutan, Chile, Fiji, Ghana, India, Zimbabwe, Canada, Ecuador, Jordan, Mexico, Portugal, Qatar, South Korea, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Forum will carry out the vision to facilitate the sharing of policy analysis, experience, best practices from cross-country and cross-sectors, discuss preparedness and also deepen the understanding of parliament in each country of SDGs.
