Syrian army repels ISIL attack in Homs, 80 terrorists killed

BEIRUT, Aug. 10 (MNA) – The Syrian army has repelled a powerful attack by militants of the ISIL terrorist group in the east of Homs province, the Syrian national agency SANA reported Thursday.

The report said that during the clashes, 80 terrorists were eliminated. The remaining militants fled, leaving the wounded and personal weapons.

The Syrian forces are continuing the operation to retake the town of As Sukhnah in the Homs province, where the Daesh largest stronghold is located. The army in cooperation with its allies have surrounded the town and started to mop up the outskirts.

Syria has been in the state of civil war for six years, with government forces fighting against both Syrian opposition groups who strive to overthrow President Bashar Assad, and numerous extremist and terrorist groups such as the ISIL.
