Tehran, Moscow determined to further strategic coop.

TEHRAN, Jul. 24 (MNA) – Former IRGC General and current Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei has underlined the need for deepening strategic cooperation in economic and security fields in the region.

Rezaei made the remarks in a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan on Sunday morning.

The Secretary of the Expediency Council, describing as strategic the viewpoints of the two countries, highly regarded the role of the Leader of Islamic Revolution and the Russian president in strengthening the relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Underlining the need for the enhancement in Russia-Iran ties, Rezaei said “the decision makers of the two countries should consider the relations as valuable assets and to support their deepening.”

He added we have found Russian statesmen and politicians independent and wise, who have resisted for years in the face of US sanctions.

Rezaei further emphasized the necessity of developing strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia in the economic, political and security issues in Iraq and Syria, adding, "we and Russia are under the pressure of sanctions, and we can create a historic opportunity with cooperation to use common markets of Iran, Russia in the region for investment and economic exchanges."

The Russian ambassador, for his part, thanking the remarks made by the secretary of the Expediency Council, said, “during Mr. Putin's visit to Iran and his meeting with Leader of Islamic Revolution, I witnessed the warmest and respectful relations between the two leaders.”

He also announced that Russia, Iran and Turkey meeting on Syrian issue, as well as the 14th Iran-Russia joint summit, will soon be held.
