Iran negotiates with world's largest grain suppliers

TEHRAN, Jul. 23 (MNA) – Deputy agriculture minister said the world’s largest grain suppliers have been invited to develop exports of bread and durum wheat produced in Iran.

Yazdan Seif, who heads Iran's Government Trading Corporation (GTC), noted that the approach taken by GTC in international engagements and presence in world markets for exports and imports of goods was based on international tenders since, in addition to creating transparency, they would give equal opportunity to all interacting companies,” he underlined.

“Over the past two months, the same strategy has brought top managers of world’s most prominent and most reputable grain companies to Iran for holding joint meetings with directors of Iran’s GTC,” noted the official.

In the meantime, managers of Bunge Limited, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Olam International and KAMO Grain Inc. have been among most credible international firms who made presence in the country and attended important meetings over the food sector.

Seif said at the meetings, the government’s policies at achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural production and the trend of boosting production in strategic products such as wheat, rice, oilseed, sugar beet and cane were explained and addressed seriously.

Deputy Iranian agriculture minister said managers of these companies were urged to put export of Iranian durum and bread wheat high on their agenda; “they also acknowledged direct effects of any rise in Iran’s agricultural output, especially wheat, on global prices and voiced readiness to facilitate delivery of high-quality Iranian wheat to world markets.

GTC president later stated that the visiting managing directors had welcomed the new approach of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation in trading goods through international tenders.
