Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of IRGC Aerospace Force, said four minutes after the first missile hit its intended target in eastern Syria, American jets immediately began flying over the zone which indicated that Iran's missile attacks had been an overt operation.
He added that the Americans might have been informed of Iran’s missile operation on Deir Ezzor from Russians.
The 18 June missile attacks on ISIL commander bases and arms facilities in Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria were in retaliation for the June 7 attacks in Tehran, which killed 17 people and injured 50 others. Six ground-to-ground, mid-range missiles were fired from bases in provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan, western Iran, at ISIL targets in Deir Ezzor, killing over 170 takfiri terrorists including a number of commanders and influential elements, according to an IRGC statement issued on June 21.
Gen. Hajizadeh went on to add that heavy damage was dealt to terrorists during the operation and some new information has been obtained which may be disclosed in the future.
He further noted that the missile strikes also carried a message to the sponsors of terrorism in the region.
