Rouhani hails Gheichisaz for outstanding climbing achievement

TEHRAN, May 31 (MNA) – President Rouhani extended his congratulations to Iranian mountain climber Azim Gheichisaz for having climbed all 14 of the world’s highest peaks and joining 8,000ers club.

“Azim Gheichisaz’ outstanding achievement of having climbed all 14 of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters after years of efforts and perseveration is a great honor for our country,” said President Hassan Rouhani in a Tweet on Tuesday.

Azim Gheichisaz joined one of the world’s most elite groups of mountaineers known as the ‘8,000ers’ after reaching Lhotse – the fourth highest mountain in the world at 8,516 meters – in Tibet on Friday, thus completing the list of all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.

The 36-year-old Iranian climber became the 37th member of the 8,000ers club.

Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world at 8,516 meters, after Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga. Part of the Everest massif, Lhotse is connected to the latter peak via the South Col.
