Liquid fuel exports to increase twofold

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) – NIORDC head said exports of gas oil and fuel oil, which stood at 290 thousand barrels per day last year, will climb to 550 to 600 thousand barrels in the present year.

Mansour Riahi, Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said with development of gas network and inauguration of five new phases of South Pars, natural gas has become the prevailing fuel in the country and the need for liquid fuel in all power plants will be alleviated in the second half of the present year (began March 21).

He pointed to the tough conditions experienced last year saying “NIORDC distributed 210 to 220 million liters per day of petroleum products across the country.” In view of extremely cold weather in most parts of the country last year compounded by the halt in exports of gas by Turkmenistan, NIORDC suffered great pressure though the difficulties were properly handled by Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh.

Following implementation of development policies in gas network of the country last year, we successfully achieved stable exports of petroleum products for the first time in 107 years.

At the end of his remarks, head of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company estimated that export volume of gas oil and fuel oil will rise from 290 thousand barrels per day of last year to 550 to 600 thousand barrels in the current year.
